The Always On setting

Overview

Sites are configured to automatically recycle or spin-down the worker process when a site has received no HTTP requests over a period of time. By enabling the Always On feature for your site that's operating on a Reserved Cloud Server, your site will stay active in a standby state and will not be subject to the normal idle timeout limits.

NOTE: The Always On setting must be enabled for Web Jobs.

Always On requires a Reserved Cloud Server

On a Shared Cloud site the setting is shown, but it is labelled Always On (For Reserved Server) and the dropdown is greyed out. It cannot be changed:

Note that Auto Heal, directly above it, is available on every site. Only Always On depends on having a Reserved Cloud Server.

How to enable Always On

1. Log in to the Everleap Control Panel at cp.everleap.com.
2. From the top menu click Shared Sites.
3. On the Shared Cloud Sites Overview page, click Manage next to the applicable site.
4. On the Site Overview page, click the SETTINGS tab.
5. Click the General tab.
6. Set Always On to Enabled.
7. Click Update General Settings.

Verify it worked

Return to the General tab. Always On should read Enabled, and the label should no longer carry the (For Reserved Server) qualifier.

Notes

• Adding a Web Job enables Always On for the site automatically, so if you are setting this up for a Web Job you may find it is already on. See How to create a WebJob.
• Always On keeps the site in standby. It does not prevent an application from recycling for other reasons, such as a configuration change or an Auto Heal action.
